SUMMARY:Führung durch die Ausgrabungen
DESCRIPTION:Shortly after Emperor Constantine's so-called "Edict of Toleration" in 313, the massive cathedral construction project began in Trier, consisting of four interconnected basilicas. This project resulted in the creation of a vast church complex in just under 70 years. The excavations beneath the Cathedral Information Center reveal the beginnings of the cathedral in 280 AD, when Christians still met in a house church, the earlier dimensions of the first churches, and the subsequent destruction.\n\nIt is a unique journey into a time when Christians rose from a persecuted minority to a state-supported religious community, when wars, fires, and conquests repeatedly shook the city, and the architectural history of church construction began – in Trier!\n\n**********\n\nImportant Information:\n- This is a guided tour with a serious background; therefore, it is not suitable for children. We recommend the tour for guests aged 14 and over.
